The Trinamool Congress drew fire on Sunday as the Opposition in West Bengal attacked the party over a purported video showing a woman and a man being beaten up. The BJP and CPI(M) alleged that the two were beaten by a TMC worker in Uttar Dinajpur district's Chopra area.

Reacting to the incident, Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahaman called the woman being beaten up an "evil beast" and said that her activities were "unsocial". However, he also denied him or the party having any links with the man who was seen thrashing the woman in the video.

Rahaman said that it was a village matter and had nothing to do with the party.

"The woman also did wrong. She left her husband, son, and daughter and became an evil beast. There is some code and justice according to Muslim society. However, we do agree that what happened was a bit extreme. Now, legal action will be taken in this case," the MLA said.

Earlier today, the video was shared on X by BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya, who alleged that the man thrashing two people on the street was a close associate of Hamidur Rahaman.

Speaking with news agency PTI, Islampur Police Superintendent Joby Thomas K stated that after watching the video on social media, the police have registered a case.

"We have initiated raids to arrest the culprit and will investigate the reason behind the act promptly," he stated.

In the video shared by the BJP and CPM, a man beating two people can be seen thrashing them with a bamboo stick. While getting beaten up, the woman grimaced in pain.

In Chopra, North Dinajpur, West Bengal, a horrifying video shows Tajemul, aka "JCB," brutally assaulting a woman.

This so-called enforcer of "quick justice" is a criminal with murder and rape charges, closely linked to Chopra MLA Hamidur Rahaman.

The BJP's Bengal unit alleged that the man in the video beating up the woman with the bamboo stick is a local TMC leader, Tajemul, also known as 'JCB'.

Blaming the media for making it news, TMC MLA stated, "Which viral video are you talking about? The woman did not lodge a complaint about it. Only you people in the media are making it a headline."

Hamidul Rahaman said that the woman was involved in certain "unsocial activities", and the village called for a 'Salishi Sabha' (also known as Kangaroo court) that decided her punishment.

"We do agree that there was something wrong with that justice. It was the local villagers who did this. We are looking into the matter. But she did not lodge any complaints, and neither did her husband. She was polite to society. In wake of this, the kangaroo court was organized," he said.
