Four BJP women legislators from West Bengal staged a demonstration outside the state Assembly for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, protesting against the recent assault on a couple in the North Dinajpur district and the alleged torture of a woman in Cooch Behar.

The two incidents of mob violence against women from West Bengal sent shock waves across the country. The first incident was in the Cooch Behar district, where a woman was allegedly dragged and thrashed, and the second was from Chopra in Islampur, where a couple were brutally beaten up in front of a kangaroo court.

Arrests have been made in both cases. However, a huge political showdown has erupted over the two incidents.

BJP’s Asansol MLA Agnimitra Paul and three other legislators held the protest, demanding strict action against those involved in the two incidents.

"Not only these two incidents, but if you count, there are 13 cases of mob violence in the state this month. It shows the law and order situation, especially how women are treated in the state. This is extremely dangerous. We are sitting over here. We will continue to sit till action is taken against these perpetrators", said Agnimitra Paul while speaking to India Today TV.

Paul said that it was an indefinite dharna. She also went on to say that the BJP MLAs were not allowed to protest inside the Assembly premises, but the Speaker allowed TMC MLAs only.

"We are not even allowed to protest inside the premises. The Speaker gives the TMC MLAs the opportunity to protest inside the premises there,. However, there is no space for discussions or protest against payment and safety", Agnimitra Paul said.

Paul also took on the state government and police, claiming that even if the perpetrators of crime are arrested, they are released in no time.

Meawnhile, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose met the victim of the Cooch Bihar incident in Siliguri on Tuesday morning. However, he could not meet the victim from the Chopra incident.
